Dear Geoffrey This is to say that I have accepted an offer from Dartmouth College Medical School (Hanover, New Hampshire) and the Brown University School of Medicine (Providence, Rhode Island) to do a combined Medical School programme. Geoffrey, here are a few thoughts for you and others who may also be in a situation of applying in a highly competitive situation. As you know we launched a campaign 12 months ago to apply to prestigious American medical schools because of the greater opportunity to secure a place for study. We completed my resume, prepared a primary application to AMCAS (America Medical Colleges Application Service), 3 independent applications, and then 12 secondary applications to universities who passed me through the first screening. I went to 4 interviews.
You recommended that we complete a resume before completing the applications. This gave me a strong personal point of reference, a spine to the whole exercise permitting us to pay attention to the unique particularities of each of the universities.
Your strategy of answering questions in detail and quantifying everything gave the reader a clear picture of what I was talking about. While clear in my head, it was important to be clear for the reader.
I feel your follow-up letters distinguished me from the other applicants - giving me a tool to stay in touch until acceptance was handed out.
All the interviewers commented that the applications we prepared at your office looked visually appealing. The University of Cincinnati – one of the oldest medical schools in the nation – particularly complimented me on the quality of the visual presentation.
The 4MinutesToTheJob "interview uniform" gave me confidence. Sitting in the waiting room among the other candidates, I felt prepared and poised. You don’t spend very long with the committee so the visual impact is very important.
In summary you produce quality work. When there are thousands of people applying for the same thing, you have to stand out to even be seen as different – and good – in content and quality. What’s on paper represents you, and you want it to be in the best light. It’s worth the 70 hours of effort and I highly recommend it.
